Background:

Education:
Mrs. Mulder was called to Immanuel Lutheran in 2005 after receiving a Bachelor of Education degree from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She also focused her studies in music and now enjoys directing the choirs of Immanuel, playing the organ and singing for church.

Mrs. Mulder has taken courses and become a Mimio Master. She structures some of her lessons to be interactive using a device similar to a Smart Board called the Mimio that is connected to her computer. It helps the students become more engaged and interactive. They benefit from a lot of information found in places other than their textbook this way. She also has her Wisconsin State license.

Family and Hobbies
The Lord blessed her with a husband and two kids with whom she enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, biking, skating, playing games, and countless other activites. Mrs. Mulder also enjoys scrapbooking and other crafts. She has even taught her students many of those skills - scrapbooking, sewing, crocheting, etc.

Scripture
Mrs. Mulder's favorite passages (though there are many):
*John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
*Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
*Romans 3:22-24 - This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

In the classroom...
Reading is so important in these ages. The students often have ample time to read in a multi-age classroom. Immanuel uses a program called Accelerated Reader to quiz students and check for comprehension when they are finished reading a story. The students are really growing because of their motivation to read. Once they've taken a quiz and received points, they also receive an in class prize for their reading chart and an outside prize using the points they've earned. It's a great program! Book It and TimberRattler Reading are the other two reading motivaters at school. The students get involved in reading, prove it, and get a prize for their diligence. Reading is so important to all other areas of reading. The more the students read, the more fluent they become and the better their vocabulary becomes.

Teaching in a multi-age classroom works very well! I grew up in a multi-age classroom and have had almost all my experience in multi-age settings. I think it works well because of how much the students can listen and retain. I have third grade students who enjoy listening to what grade five is learning which helps them better understand these concepts when they come along later for grade three. They also socialize with the older students and do not feel intimidated by them or inferior to them. Things seem to work well in this setting.
